SAMANTHA FISH and JESSE DAYTON have announced that their splendid Jon Spencer produced album, Death Wish Blues, has earned them a Grammy® nomination for “Best Contemporary Blues Album”.
In this exciting category, the pair of music-makers have been compared with contemporary blues legends: Ruthie Foster, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Larkin Poe, and Bettye LaVette.
We’ve described material from the album as: “infectiously resilient […] pragmatically buttered [and] filled with sour blue intent…” and when we saw them play tracks from the album live at the 100 Club in London we described their fresh sounds as: chock-full of nostalgic twang, joyous kitsch, and just enough timelessness to top the cup of any rockin’ blues connoisseur…
“Jesse, Jon, and I worked so hard to bring this album to life,” says Fish. “It was a true collaboration. I have been so proud of this work since we left the studio. I felt like we had something special, and I’m thrilled that the GRAMMYs are recognising it. Thank you, it’s such an honour.”
Dayton agrees: “Samantha, our producer Jon Spencer, and I, all worked hard to create something that could take blues guitar in a new direction. I’m so humbled our record is being recognized by the GRAMMYs.”
