The alt-rock and blues-roots cellist, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist CALUM INGRAM will launch his long-awaited double A side 7” inch vinyl single “Dancing in The Moonlight” and “Demon Eyes” this July 31st 2020.

I decided to play some guitar and a bit of bass to give a bed of rock for some funky cello riffs,” he says.

Dancing in the Moonlight is showcased in a way like you have never heard before. I’ve tried to take the Thin Lizzy classic and turn it on its head.”

The moment Tony Visconti asked me to come up with my own unique take of the track for 50 years celebration concert in London, I knew I could take it to another place,” Calum suggests.

The violoncellist has skillfully sparkled his instrument since the age of nine.

He’s developed an incomparable &intertextual approach to his chordophone by innovatively inflorescencing the strings. He says he draws influences from Peter Gabriel, Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer, Jack White, and John Martyn.

In 2013 the artist from Paisley, Scotland wrote and performed music for Miki Bone’s off-Broadway Show Division Avenue while completing studies at the New York School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, and he won the award for Best Sound Design as part of The Midtown International Theatre Festival, New York City. At around the same time he released a debut album, titled: “Making It Possible.”

He has headlined the acoustic main state at The Wicker Man Festival in Scotland and has toured America, Europe, and the UK. In 2016, he performed a special concert that honoured the life of legendary Cream bassist, Jack Bruce, alongside Mick Taylor, Steve Hackett, Bernie Marsden Lulu, and Eddi Reader.

In 2017, Calum was featured in the Sky Arts television series, Tony Visconti’s “Unsigned Heroes” which saw him executing a duet with Stewart Copeland (The Police) as part of Visconti’s 50 Years in Music celebratory concert. In 2019, Calum performed at the Blues Autour Du Zinc Festival in France.

His cover of Thin Lizzy’s “Dancing in the Moonlight” (the number first appeared on their 1977 album Bad Reputation) is a groovy/fuzzy brew of reverberate percolations with eddying drones from the cello and a light, coppery vocal that trims the outer edges of melody. This version sounds kinda summery, kitschy and glam-psychedelic.
