JIM KIRKPATRICK is one of the UK’s top blues and rock guitarists, and now he’s released the title track from his forthcoming solo album: “Ballad of a Prodigal Son” as his smashing new single.

Better known as the lead guitarist for British hard rock / AOR band FM, Jim has also appeared on stage as the right hand man of former Whitesnake guitarist and hit songwriter Bernie Marsden since 2006, and has recently collaborated with Bernie and several members of Rory Gallagher’s band in tribute to the legendary Irish guitarist.

The ‘Ballad Of A Prodigal Son’ single was written by Jim (who also plays guitar, vocals, and percussion on the track); joined by Scott Ralph (drums), Chris Cliff (bass), Jem Davis (keys)

An impressive list of talented collaborating friends also came together with Jim to create an impressive album that masterfully exemplifies his position as a virtuoso guitarist and stimulatory songwriter.

This squeezed and squished shuttle is an expeditiously delivered blues-rock roadster that comes packed with plenty of rolling scoop, stiff beats, and stingray guitar-work. Galvanic!

Ballad of a Prodigal Son’is a blues-rock outing with some songs co-written with friends and some fine contributions from many of my colleagues,” Jim says, “There’s a whole host of well-known guests playing and contributing to the album which is very rocky, bluesy and with LOTS of guitar playing!” I’m hoping that my fans and audience will love it.”

I can’t wait to hear the reaction to my forthcoming video and single,” he adds, “Ballad of A Prodigal Son is my very first solo single and video and I’m really pleased with the results!

The song is partly about me (the prodigal son) returning to solo work after such a long time. It’s also partly about a friend and colleague of mine. We had great fun working and playing in America years back, where we got up to all sorts!
