London-based singer/songwriter, Charlie Freeman aka FREEMAN has released a new single, “Get Me Started” ahead of his album, “London Nights”.
The new album reviews the themes of the free love movement of the 1960s and 1970s and illustrates the bittersweet nature of romanticism and heartbreak. “London Nights” was written during a session with Freeman’s Producer and band mate Jamie Brown — it blends nostalgia with the present, and a retro atmosphere with modernity.
Of the song, FREEMAN says: “Get Me Started’ is a groove-based tune with a funk vibe, quite different in style to other tunes on the record. My reference was ‘Miss You’, one of my favourite Stones tracks, which they dropped during the disco fever of the late 70’s.”
The sound is rapidly squelchy, the voice ranges from organic charcoal to gratifying falsetto, and the texture is cushiony clouds on a summer day splintered by rousing impulses. This number reminds us of #9 Dream. File alongside under psychedelic pop: halfway between The Undisputed Truth and The Byrds.
