The new album by the German mediaeval metal  act FEUERSCHWANZ (tail of fire) founded in 2004 is a Covers Album, titled Todsünden, due out December 30, 2022 via Napalm Records.

The band are famed for reworking mediaeval melodies, reinterpreting fairytales and covering other works that would not normally be encountered in the mediaeval rock milieu let alone in the halls of heavy metal fandom, to give the ditties fresh, preposterous, and often muntitangled & cinemabulous new immanences.

To discover how FEUERSCHWANZ treat the unlikely & improbable, check out their medievalcore cover of The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights” (music video shared below).

The band describe it as, “A song from 2020, but with REALLY heavy 80s vibes. Bon Jovi with bagpipes… a vampire singing about the sun….’”

Other numbers to get the FEUERSCHWANZ treatment include Abba’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” that arrives with a folk rock vibe and encompasses a gloomy but uplifting atmosphere that unleashes a detonation of riffing and hyperactive drumming, plus Europe‘s “The Final Countdown”, and Ed Sheeran’s “I See Fire.”

Ding” (originally by german reggae hip-hop masters Seeed) features Ad Infinitum’s mezzo-soprano equipped Melissa Bonny (pictured above) providing a stunning vocal demonstration.

FEUERSCHWANZ also perform their own rendition of Amon Amarth’s “Twilight of the Thunder God” giving it fresh perspective and transforming it into an 80s rock hymn with a mediaeval backdrop.

Other songs on the album include renditions  of Ghost’s “Square Hammer”, Powerwolf‘s “Amen and Attack” with hyper-elevated and incantated violins, Sabaton’s “Gott Mit Uns”, and the all-time classic “Warriors of the World” by the legendary Manowar, which they perform with special guests Angus McSix (Gloryhammer), Saltatio Mortis, and Melissa Bonny.

FEUERSCHWANZ once more overcome linguistic, genre-specific, and let’s be truthfully honest, taste limitations, to bring whim, jollity and even some levity to the darker taverns of German metallic sound. Fabulously malevolous!

Covers Album, Todsünden, is out December 30, 2022
