Following a sold out show in London, Meg Mac has released her self-titled debut EP.
Featuring the powerful and personal single ‘Roll Up Your Sleeves’ — the 5-track EP showcases the singer songwriter’s soulful vocals and starkly cinematic lyrics filtered through a Memphis inspired sense of deep dark soul.
The EP also includes her dramatic reworking of the classic Bill Withers song ‘Grandma’s Hands’.
Meg Mac has had an incredible year; named Triple J’s ‘Unearthed artist of the year’, she also landed 3 songs in the station’s Hottest 100 and was nominated for two ARIA Awards for Best Female and Best Breakthrough Artist. And D’Angelo hand-picked Meg to support him on his ‘Black Messiah’ tour of North America.
She’d previously toured America with Clean Bandit and performed at SXSW 2015 where she was listed as the number one SXSW act to watch out for on Buzzfeed.
We listened to new song ‘Never Be‘
This is fraught within, with nagging rhythms that will bite into your conscious being like steel teeth.
The voice is strong and dangerous, like acid-water hidden in butter-oil.
Yes, it’s smooth and oily, but keeps claws and fangs hidden and prepared.
Meg is fierce as well as fragile. And this song shows her reslilient nature, as well as exposing an inner vulnerability.
But it remains. Thoroughly unbeaten.
