The Bristol-based, British multi-award-winning, genre-crossing artist ELLES BAILEY has released ‘Sunshine City’ — the second single to be taken from the forthcoming album ‘Shining in the Half Light’, due early 2022.
We thought the last, ‘Cheats and Liars’ was “authoritative, peremptory and committed…”
And now‘Sunshine City’ (written in collaboration with Matt Owens of Noah and the Whale) has purposeful honky-tonk guitar, steady-clocking bass, eager rhythms and seductive moonstone keys.
On this rockin’ mover Elles’ electrifying fruitwood ‘n’ bourbon voice is superbly cadenced and vivifying… like a punch from a velvet glove! In the second verse, the Bristol bluethroat increases the stakes, laying it all on the table to make great headway. If this wasn’t compelling enough, we’re also presented with sailplaning solos from (Sefrial guitarist) Joe Wilkins that poke right through the organdy to scintillate the whole piece. Terrific!
Speaking about ‘Sunshine City’ Elles says, “I guess you could say it’s the polar opposite to my last single ‘Cheats & Liars’ — ‘Sunshine City’ doesn’t take itself seriously in any way! It’s my ‘throw your hair back, laugh out loud, put your foot down, drive faster’ kind of a tune.”
