The blues-rock guitarist and singer-songwriter BEN POOLE is one of the most exciting young musicians to come out of the UK in recent years.

Ben will release his new double-disc live recording: Ben Poole Trio /// Live ‘19” on Friday 31st January 2020. It’s been over five years since his well-received “Live at the Albert Hall” disc was released via Cadiz Music.

The new album was recorded over three nights in July 2019 at Old Schoolhouse in Barnsley, The Half Moon in South London and Bootleggers in Kendal, Cumbria. It promises over 90 minutes of electrifying live blues-rock at its finest…

Ben Poole Trio Live
Inflorescences of fire spillover the folds between the rhythms…

The double live album features Wayne Proctor (drums), Steve Amadeo (bass) with  Ben Poole (vocals, guitar) and showcases Ben’s most popular songs from his past two albums including 2018’s critically acclaimed Anytime You Need Me and 2016’s Time Has Come which RAW RAMP described as “luminary.”

We had a listen:

Take It No More” has a grainy texture, with slippery keys and the kind of snakeskin boogie that reminds us of a loitering sex-cat.

Naturally, the guitar is splendorous — breathtaking in its resoluteness to out-dazzle any agonized sadness found in the lyric.

Lying to Me” has squishy tumult underfoot… a certain bombilation… as if this song is cresting white-water. And it’s varnished with acidulous organ notes too. The awesome fingering of Ben’s seductive guitar and the wholesome use of the vibrato tend to give this piece a blossoming, fluorescent quality.

And “I Think I Love You Too Much” gurgles as much as it gushes. It’s a subdued piece of intimacy… deluxe and genteel. But the inflorescences of guitar-fire that spillover from the folds between the rhythms bring a sense of sensuousness from an otherwise super-smooth number.

This is a great live blues album delivered by a super-talented powerhouse. It’s filled with magic moments and many soft and thoroughly refined numbers. It will make a superb addition to any rock & blues afficionado’s collection.
