Australia’s one-time ‘Silverchair’ front-man and creatively original singer-songwriter Daniel Johns has been ‘silent’ for 8 years.
His long awaited album is therefore called “Talk”.
A heavenly voice
We had a listen:
‘We Are Golden’ is absolutely delicious, with a soap-box rhythm and rivulets of wavy synth.
The voice is high-born pure and lustrous — as the rhythm builds nicely, you will become mesmerized by its angelic qualities.
‘By Your Side’ bounces like a beach ball in a hot tub spa.
This is not unlike ‘So’ era Peter Gabriel in ambition and stride.
A rotation of synthesized shenanigans. Art rock meets deep soul.
There are dark moments of frazzle here too, amongst the melodicism that is hidden in every corner.
‘Preach’ is grand and eloquent.
It is run-deep, psychedelic soul. With a heavenly voice and an equally other-worldly attitude. It’s like ‘Imagine’ with extra gravy.
Here is lavishly produced soul-jazz/dance-rock created with pomp and theatrical aesthetics and imbued with a voice that is absolutely captivating.
