POLARTROPICA — OLYMPIA

POLARTROPICA is the artistic project of Los Angeles based, whimsical space-pop artist, Ihui Cherise Wu.

Born in Taiwan, raised in California, Wu unites offbeat pop melodies with visionary synths plus classical string arrangements, to produce bubble-gummy psychedelia the likes of which you’ve never heard before, yet are somehow familiar…

Polartropica comes from a moment when Wu heard a song that couldn’t be defined by genre — ‘Polartropic’ by Mark Foster.

POLARTROPICA – a rhythmically expanding throb of thew and perspicuity…

Loving the direct contrast between both ‘polar’ and ‘tropical’ in the portmanteau — Wu decided to develop a place where things can subsist even when they don’t belong.

Polartropica intermixes complete opposites together to create one unique, ethereal outcome that defies easy definition.

Using both organic and synthetic instruments, Wu conjures a visionary dream world for her listeners to escape into.

Wu says, “I wanted to create a healing, inspiring and empowering space with just the right amount of disco-party…

After the successful release of a debut single in 2015, Wu is now back with an even more scintillating and extraordinary work. The theme of the new music is a magical make-believe world, teeming with outer-space sounds.

I’m hoping to always make ethereal and beautiful music, the songs are generally lyrically sad and a little dark, but the music always has a sparkly sheen”, she says.

We listened to the glamorously galloping track OLYMPIA.

It’s about resolution and resilience. The production sizzles, with a voice of lustrous titanium and a beat that is a rhythmically expanding throb of thew and perspicuity.
