Measures Of Joy is the debut album from South London (UK) based group Virginia Wing.
Released on Fire Records last November it is due to be issued in May 2015 in deluxe form.
Virginia Wing is Alice Merida Richards, Sam Pillay and Sebastian Truskolaski.
We had a fresh listen:
‘World Contact’ has a fine groove with paper-knife vocals that switchblade around the jagged spears of sound — bursting like sprouting tendrils from the deep rhythms.
‘Marnie’ has ghostly thin sounds that resonate around the essences.
The sombre voice of Richards wakes up soon to become chirped — but even then the hypnosis begins again.
And all the while an insistent beat keeps things bumping chuggily along.
‘Gold Thread’is like finding an amorphous mud-creature stuck in the plug-hole.
He is fly-blown and warty. Unnatural and full of worms… Half horrific half mechanical.
This is the musical union of two parallel worlds … one technological and one magical.
Psychedelic pop-noir with holy-dead images frequently rising from a blackened stare. Manufactured with more than enough trickery and cunning … this will make you think twice.
