ALBANY DOWN have passion in their hearts … For sure. They can gather a lot of bile & fury when the time seems right. It seems right at the moment!
They are quintessential blues artists of the 21st century …
Readers will know that we have been fans of the London band for many years now.
We highly rated their “Not Over Yet” album which, we thought, spanned the gap between vintage era blues and the contemporary definition of blues rock. Of that album, we said — “bursting with ambition and verve…”

Albany Down – The tense guitar twists like a dancing serpent. ..
So we are very pleased to announce that their third studio album — “The Outer Reach” — will be released on Friday 10th June.
Once again, the new album comprises fresh songs and was recorded by the award-winning producer Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, INME, Super Furry Animals).
“The band have really stepped up in both their song writing and performance…” says Greg, “The Outer Reach is their best album yet, and I’m really pleased with the result.”
Check the new Andrew Merlino video [below] “Feeding The Flame” — a new song from the Album “The Outer Reach” —
We listened to it —
Rivers of pain burst the banks on this masterful song… Treachery and bad-faith are never far away.
The tense guitar twists like a dancing serpent. This number is majestic and sweeping, with no sense of hurry. And with cobra-kissed darkness hiding deep in each cranny.
